After decades of working as a stuntman, Eddie Braun begins to retire with a bang, recreating his hero Evel Knievel's unsucessful rocket launch across Idaho's Snake River Canyon. With his family's blessing and the support of his stuntman colleagues, Braun teams up with the son of Knievel's rocket engineer on a three-plus year odyssey to fulfill his childhood dream. Along the way, Braun discovers that launching and funding this momentous event might be more difficult than crossing the canyon itself.
